Open links in a specific Chrome profile on Mac
Send work links to your work Chrome Profile and personal links to another one, even when they come from Mail, Slack or another Mac app.
macOS lets you choose a default browser, but it does not choose a different Chrome Profile for each link. Switchman is a native Mac browser chooser and link router that sits between an external app and the browser you want.
Set up Chrome Profile routing
- Install Switchman. Download the app and let it become the handler for web links. Switchman works on macOS 13 or later.
- Open the browser list. Switchman reads Chromium Profiles from the browser's local files. Your Profile names appear as destinations; there is no separate Profile import step.
- Create a rule. Route a domain, exact address, or source app to the Chrome Profile you choose. A rule can send work links to work Chrome while leaving personal links on another destination.
- Test an external link. Open a link from Mail, Slack, Notes or another app. The picker shows the matching destination, and the next matching link can follow the rule automatically.
Profiles and Arc Spaces
Switchman can target a Chromium browser Profile or an Arc Space, not only the browser application. Browser-persona targets are a Pro feature. If no rule matches, you can still choose a browser from the picker each time.
What happens to your links?
The app routes the link directly from your Mac to the selected browser. It does not send the URL through a Switchman server, and the app has no telemetry or link log. Site icons and short-link resolution are separate opt-in settings whose requests go directly from your Mac.
Chrome Profile routing FAQ
Can I route links from Slack and Mail?
Yes. When macOS sends the link to Switchman, a rule can use the source app as part of its match. You can also route by domain or exact address.
Does this change my Chrome Profiles?
No. Switchman reads the Profiles that Chrome already has and opens the selected one. It does not create, rename or sync Chrome Profiles.
Can I sync these rules to another Mac?
Yes, Pro can sync Switchman rules and settings through your private iCloud database. Read about syncing browser rules across Macs.
Switchman is free for its routing core. See what Pro adds or return to the Mac browser chooser homepage.
