Sync browser rules across Macs with private iCloud
Keep your Switchman routing setup consistent across Macs through your own iCloud private database — without sending links through a Switchman server.
Switchman syncs the setup that decides where links go. It is designed for people who use more than one Mac and want the same work, personal and source-app routing rules on each one.
What syncs
- Routing rules. Domain, exact-address and source-app rules move between Macs.
- Application mappings. Browser destinations, including supported Profiles and Arc Spaces, remain part of the routing setup.
- Routing settings. URL tracking-parameter cleaning, short-link resolution and site-icon fetching settings are included.
How iCloud sync works
- Activate Pro. iCloud sync is a Pro feature. The app does not start the sync manager for an unactivated Pro install.
- Sign in to iCloud. Sync uses the iCloud account already available to macOS. If no iCloud account is available, Switchman stays idle.
- Use Switchman normally. The app pulls and merges rules through the iCloud private database, then pushes local changes. Different edits can merge by rule.
What does not sync
Mac-specific choices stay on that Mac: the menu-bar icon, language, update checks and other local state are not moved between computers. Link counts and the site-icon cache also remain local.
Privacy and control
Sync goes to your iCloud private database using Apple's CloudKit service. It does not pass through Switchman infrastructure. The app does not keep a link log, and the Switchman binary has no analytics or telemetry. Read the full privacy explanation.
iCloud sync FAQ
Is iCloud sync available now?
Yes. It is included with Pro. The app also checks that the current Mac has iCloud available before starting sync.
Does Switchman upload my links to its own server?
No. The sync records live in your iCloud private database. Switchman does not operate a link relay or link log.
Can I use Switchman without iCloud?
Yes. Local routing works without iCloud. Sync simply stays idle when no iCloud account is available.
